So, I know how everyone talks about how the saddest Momiji moment is when he’s talking about how his mother abandoned him, but this to me was the saddest. Through the entire scene before this one, Momiji tried to protect Tohru (who we just found he totally, non-jokingly loves) and he failed. The one thing he wanted to do was keep her safe and he couldn’t do it. And then exact opposite of what he wanted happens: Tohru gets hurt.

I dont know, to me it just seems like the saddest. All the other times, he’s kind of already made peace with the sad stuff that’s happened in his life, but this is the only time we see him really broken up over something.
